About the Gillette Sensor system
Gillette Sensor is a twin-blade cartridge system. Gillette unveiled it in October 1989 and put it on sale in 1990; it was the first razor with twin blades individually mounted on springs, so each blade could follow the face on its own.
Sensor Excel and Sensor3 cartridges use the same mount as the original Sensor. Gillette's Sensor Excel refill packaging is labelled as fitting all Sensor razors, and retailers list Sensor, Sensor Excel and Sensor3 cartridges as interchangeable across Sensor handles. Mach3 and Fusion handles take only their own families of cartridge, so those do not cross over in either direction.
No Sensor or Sensor Excel product appears in Gillette's current US catalogue, and Gillette's US product page for the range has been removed. Gillette has published no discontinuation date for the cartridges themselves; they still turn up at retail from time to time, and we cannot confirm whether any remain in production. What we list is what we can supply.
